Hostelling International Job Description Job Title: Front Office Clerk Location: address, address Reports To: Front Office Manager/ Manager On Duty FLSA Status: Summary: To provide seamless check-in and check-out processes for the guests, prepare for arrivals, process walk-ins, smoothly check in groups, verify departures, follow up on late departures. Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Welcome and register guests in a timely manner.* 2. Check guests in and out, assign rooms and issue room keys or cards.* 3. Provide information about services available in the hostel and in the community.* 4. Protect privacy of guests and colleagues at all times.* 5. Verify customers' credit and establish how the customer will pay for the accommodation.* 6. Promote and sell guest rooms.* 7. Keep an inventory of rooms reservations.* 8. Respond to reservation enquiries.* 9. Investigate and resolve disputed charges on guest accounts.* 10. Answer telephones and take messages.* 11. Handle and distribute guest mail.* 12. Record guest comments.* 13. Responsible for handling cash and operating the register.* 14. Communicate guest complaints and refer dissatisfied guests to a manager.* Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience: High School Diploma or GED; and one to two years retail experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Ability: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one- on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
