Position: Machinist Department: Maintenance Summary: This position will be responsible for operating machine tools to produce precision machine parts for our manufacturing facility. NOTE: Manual machinists are skilled, dexterous individuals who drill, cut and shape items both manually and with machine tools. Working in industrial shops or plants with blueprints and specifications, machinists produce anything from bed springs to auto parts. We do not use CNC Machines, strictly looking for Manual Machinist. RESPONSIBILITIES Task and Duties: •Maintain department tools and equipment, including inventory and repair •Participate in new equipment, modifications or special projects •Machine parts to specification using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers and grinders •Measure, examine and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers •Set up, adjust and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations •Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and material into machines •Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process •Study sample parts, blueprint, drawings and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operation needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances •Select the appropriate tools, machines and material to be used in preparation of machinery work •Perform other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Skills: •Strong communication skills, written and verbal •Fabrication and machine shop proficiency •Welding experience – Mig/Tig/Arc/Oxy- Aceylene •Problem-solving, prioritization and multi-tasking skills are required •Excellent attention to detail/accuracy and organizational skills •Be able to calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and Vernier calipers •Skilled in the use of associated shop equipment such as hydraulic press, band saws and drill presses •Be able to lay out, measure and mark metal stock in order to display placement of cuts Education/Experience: •Minimum of 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment •Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s Degree or equivalent work experience This is a 1st shift position: •10 hour shifts from Monday through Friday, 8 hour shift Friday and Saturday. •Candidate must be willing to work lots of overtime. General housekeeping, Safety and Maintenance as well other projects/assignments will be assigned by Supervisor/Manager during machine downtime or production shutdown.
